There’s a hole in some homeowner’s insurance that’s come to light since it’s not exactly helpful to those owning their home.
The Guardian reports that 82-year-old Sabata Picone came across an issue when a pipe burst and damaged some of her neighbor’s property and she was charged by her insurance company for negligence. She received a letter stating, “you have failed in your common law duty.” However, although this seems like exactly the sort of thing that homeowner’s insurance should cover, she was told that since she has buildings cover instead of contents insurance.
This isn’t the case with all insurance companies, however, it’s important to review yours to see if you have this hole in your policy.
